Here's our choices, we can start with a time-skip several years after shippuden from a designated location.

Or we can start in an alternate universe.


I will list the pros and cons of both from an unbiased standpoint below:

Pros of Time Skip:

• The past is concrete, easy to deal with and we can focus the future and developing clans and jutsu.
  
• Hard to make plot holes because the story has been professionally created by the creator of Naruto.
  
• There are already standing villages that can be exploited for our personal gain.
  
• Clans are already developed.
  
• We don't have to explain why things work and why things don't work.
  
• Plot is more linear.
  

Cons of Time Skip:

• The past is concrete, therefore we cannot edit anything that has happened.
  
• Any jutsu that are overpowered cannot be erased without something cliche or stupid OOC knowledge.
  
• Theres always the chance that a noob will want to be Naruto/Sauce-gay/Kakashi/Sakura (Canon characters). Thats a no no.
  
• Plot is more linear.
  
• We have to explain what happened to the Canon characters.
  

Pros of Alternate Universe:

• The universe is literally open for us to explain and mold.
  
• Anything can be explained how we want it to be and things we don't want to exist can literally not exist.
  
• Stupid plots of the Naruto Universe can be wiped.
  
• Far more fun to make the plot for whoever is writing it.
  

Cons of Alternate Universe:

• The universe is extremely open meaning literally anything can happen, including plots that make no sense.
  
• Certain things that are particularly important to the creation of the universe can be looked over, for example, the creation of the leaf village.
  
• Clans will have to be made from scratch from the ground up as they will have no foundation in the Naruto Universe.
